Mittwoch, 13. März 1968 – Seit meiner Ankunft in Israel am 18. September 1967 für einen dreimonatigen Einsatz an der Botschaft (verlängert um weitere drei Monate bis Ende März 1968) hatte ich in den vergangenen Monaten hart und zu ungewöhnlichen Zeiten gearbeitet und kaum etwas von Israel jenseits von Tel Aviv gesehen. Daher beschloss ich, für den kommenden Samstag, den 16. März, eine Tour mit Egged Tours zu buchen. Ich parkte mein Auto in der Mendele-Straße, ganz in der Nähe des Buchungsbüros von Egged Tours, das sich gleich um die Ecke in der Ben-Yehuda-Straße befand. Als ich ausstieg, sah ich gegenüber ein Schild der Egged-Tours-Zentrale und einen Buchungsangestellten hinter seinem Schreibtisch. Anstatt die etwa 200 Meter um die Ecke zu laufen, ging ich also direkt hinein. Der Mann sprach Deutsch, also unterhielten wir uns auf Deutsch. Dann öffnete sich ein Vorhang, und da stand sie – Nurit – wow, so sexy und wunderschön! Sie sprach Deutsch mit mir und stand mir gegenüber, einem etwa 20-jährigen Mitarbeiter der deutschen Botschaft in seinem silbergestreiften Anzug mit Krawatte. Nurit war die Sekretärin des Landesmanagers von Egged Tours und arbeitete im Backoffice, als sie Deutsch hörte und jemand von der deutschen Botschaft vorne eine Tour buchte. Ihre Mutter stammte aus Norden, einer Stadt 70 km von Wilhelmshaven, meiner Heimatstadt, entfernt. Ich war wie hypnotisiert von ihrem Aussehen. Ich buchte eine Tour nach Ein Gedi, und sie schwärmte mir von der Schönheit dieser Gegend vor. Ich ging, noch ganz benommen, mit dem Tourgutschein in der Tasche. Meine Gedanken kreisten eigentlich nur darum, Israel in zwei Wochen zu verlassen, für ein paar Wochen zurück zur AA Zentrale nach Bonn und dann zu meinem nächsten zweijährigen Einsatz – der Deutschen Botschaft in Straßburg. Dann kam Samstag, der 16. März – ich sollte um 8:30 Uhr im Hauptbüro von Egged Tours, Mendelestraße 8, zur Tour sein. Bei unserem Treffen am Mittwoch vergaß ich völlig, dass ich die letzten Wochen in einer leerstehenden Botschaftswohnung in Neve Avivim im Norden von Tel Aviv verbrachte, weit entfernt von der Mendele-Straße. Wie sollte ich also schnell an mein Ziel kommen? Ich rannte zur nahegelegenen Küstenstraße und versuchte, einen Egged-Bus anzuhalten, um näher heranzukommen. Wie durch ein Wunder hielt ein roter Bus an, der mich mit meinem Tourgutschein wedeln sah. Dieser Bus fuhr zur Mendele-Straße 8! Ich konnte mein Glück kaum fassen – es war ein Sonderbus, der Touristen aus den Herzliya Hotels abgeholt hatte, die an derselben Tour teilnahmen!

Während der Tour, bei einer kurzen, erfrischenden Pause in Beerscheba, verliebten wir uns Hals über Kopf, denn wir waren füreinander bestimmt! Es folgten zwei aufregende Wochen, und dann kam der bittere Moment des Abschieds! Es war so unfair und herzzerreißend, wenn man bedenkt, wie tief und intensiv die Gefühle in nur zwei Wochen gewesen waren! Ich wusste, dass sie die Eine war – die Liebe meines Lebens! Und ich wusste, dass ich so schnell wie möglich nach Israel zurückkehren würde. |
| Wednesday, March 13 1968 - I worked hard and odd hours these past months from Sep.18 1967 the day I arrived in Israel for a 3 months assignment at the embassy (extended for another 3 months till end of March 68)and I hardly had seen anything of Israel beyond Tel Aviv. So I decided to book a tour with Egged Tours for the coming saturday March 16. I parked the car in Mendele St. close to the Egged Tours booking office located just around the corner on Ben Yehuda St. As I got out of the car I noticed opposite me an Egged Tours headoffice sign and a booking clerk behind his desk so I entered there instead of walking the approx 200 meters around the corner.The guy knew German so we spoke in German . Then a curtain moved and there was she - Nurit - wow so sexy and beautiful and she spoke in German to me, standing opposite this 20 year old German Embassy offical in his silver striped suit and tie .... Nurit was the secretary of the Egged Tours country manager , working in the backoffice when she heard German and someone from the German Embassy was booking a tour in the front ... Her mother was from Norden, a town 70 km from Wilhelmshaven my home town - I was hypnotized by her appearance. I booked a tour to Ein Gedi and she explained how beautiful this tour was. I left, still in a haze and with the tour voucher in my pocket. My mind actually was focused on leaving Israel in two weeks time, back to the AA Zentrale in Bonn for a few weeks and then to my next full 2 year assignment - Deutsche Botschaft Strassburg ... Then came Saturday March 16 - I was supposed to be at the Egged Tours Headoffice, Mendele St.8 at 8:30 for the tour. During our encounter on Wednesday I completely forgot that I was living for a few final weeks in a vacated embassy flat in Neve Avivim in the northern part of Tel Aviv and not even close to Mendele St. so how would I get fast to my destination ??? I ran down to the coastal road near by and tried to stop an Egged bus to get closer. By higher intervention (heaven) a red bus stopped seeing me waving my tour voucher... This bus was heading for Mendele St.8 !!! I couldnt believe my luck - it was a special pick up bus that had picked up tourists from Herzliya Hotels who participated on the same tour !
During the tour , while on a short refreshing break in Beersheva we fell madly in love at first sight because we were predestined for each other ! Crazy exciting 2 weeks followed and then came the bitter moment of parting ! It was so unfair and heartbreaking considering the deep feelings and intensity just in two weeks !!! I knew that she was the ONE - the love of my life ! And I knew that I would return to Israel ASAP changing the ciurse of my life forever.....

This was thanks to your going with me, hand in hand, through it all, always trying to make it easier and happy with all kinds of everything. Was für ein Jahr liegt hinter uns – es war körperlich und seelisch so anstrengend, aber inmitten all dessen gab es so viele besondere und unbeschwerte Momente. Das verdanken wir dir, dass du immer an meiner Seite warst, Hand in Hand, und stets versucht hast, alles leichter und schöner zu gestalten. All das hat uns einmal mehr unsere einzigartige, himmlische Verbindung gezeigt. Du bist meine ewige Liebe. Genieße deinen Ehrentag und alle Tage danach. Ich wünsche dir alles Gute und Gottes Segen. 2022-2024 - detection at stage 3 - operation and all clear given but intensive treatments for several months to prevent any complications - (June-Dec 2022)
she was granted another nine months in a recovered state - the time of pregnancy in the reverse - we travelled to Vienna in January - to Germany in July - August visiting friends and family - she even managed to judge at three shows in Europe but came home exhausted and sick with flu which got worse in Sep. in November the cancer had spread to the liver and an additional treatment was initiated but now in phase 4 it got worse and worse and Nuriti dwindelt away with every passing day ... we watched the sunsets at the beach - first walking with pauses then only looking through the car window we celebrated my birthday on 19-2-2024 but she didnt have the strength to write so last year was the last card ... our daughter helped a lot and it was a sad and somber time as Nurit got weaker and weaker. She stayed at home - medical care was arranged - Nurit died in my arms already on her journey as she was not able to communicate during the last 72 hours - the saddest moments in my life holding her in my arms and kissing her a final good bye ...
Nurit was buried in the grave of her mother who had passed away in 1994. My heart bleeds when I see her name on the tomb stone as well. Before we would visit her mother's grave on holidays but now both names are shown .... and it reminds me of how we met - her and her mother and all the exciting times that followed ... now again they are united in the same tomb ...
